Success Story

‘History will judge us by the difference we make in the everyday lives of children.’ Nelson Mandela

Since our inception in 2012, we at Pakistan Children’s Heart Foundation (PCHF), have helped 2460 children get heart surgery. This is the amazing success story of a remarkably spirited 3-year-old Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) survivor, Farhan Iqbal. As a blossoming child, Farhan was diagnosed with a CHD known as Atrial Septal Defect (ASD). This left his parents distraught and distressed, searching for ways to save their little one.

ASD is a hole in the septum (wall) between the two upper chambers of your heart (atria). The hole increases the amount of blood that flows through the lungs. A large, long-standing ASD can damage the heart and lungs.

We provide the highest quality of care for children with heart disease, irrespective of their financial means. Every year, around 60,000 children are born with CHD in Pakistan, and a large majority of these children are unable to get the treatment required due to lack of facilities, personnel and the high costs involved. That is where we step in.

Farhan Iqbal’s family lives in Lahore. They came to us full of high expectations, looking to end their continuous struggle. Farhan’s father, Iqbal Ahmed, is a carpenter and his mother, Sumbal Iqbal, is a housewife. Thankfully, their prayers were answered as the planned procedure, an ASD closure, was scheduled through a swift, smooth and extremely efficient process that was funded entirely by us. Blessedly, the surgery was a resounding success and after a few days at the hospital under the special care of our brilliant team of healthcare professionals, he was discharged. Iqbal and Sumbal are now proud parents of a CHD warrior.

We made a real difference in the lives of Farhan Iqbal and his family. Turning their dream of living a wonderful life together into reality. Children born with CHD can help shape a brighter future for our country and they vitally require your support. Legendary Pakistani cricketer, Misbah Ul Haq, has also joined us on the journey to conquering CHD in Pakistan, by helping build the nation’s first dedicated, state-of-the-art Children’s Heart Hospital and Research Institute (CHHRI).
